    Scrapie is a fatal, degenerative disease affecting the central nervous system of sheep and goats. It is among a number of diseases classified as transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSE). Infected flocks that contain a high percentage of susceptible animals can experience significant production losses. Funding was allocated for a three year study that will focus on determining scrapie prevalence in the Canadian sheep flock and goat herd and the continuation of the Scrapie Flock Certification Program (SFCP). The objectives of the National TSE Eradication Plan are: To determine scrapie prevalence in the Canadian sheep flock and goat herd.
